Report on the National Assembly electionsThe report is based on the result of COMFREL monitoring and assessment on 2008 National Elections in 15 provinces and municipalities throughout Cambodia. 10,000 long- and short-term election observers and 1,319 vote tabulation/quick count staff/volunteers were trained and deployed during the pre- and post-national election. While the decrease in the number of violence cases, a better access to media and a better understanding of voter rights and responsibilities by Cambodian citizens were underlined as a relative improvement during the elections, many concerns remained: active participation of the civil servants, forces personnel and other state authorities in support of the election campaigns for the Cambodian People's Party (CPP); the use of state resources in favor of the ruling party; and a serious under-representation of women in the new National Assembly.
