In March, 2018, the Myanmar REDD+ program released its National REDD+ strategy draft report. Forest Trends has provided the following comments to the report authors in hopes that they will support the Government of Myanmar and relevant stakeholders to prepare a national REDD+ Strategy that will best contribute to forest ecological health, good governance, and forest-based livelihoods and that builds on national peace-building efforts. Forest Trends is an international organization working globally to conserve forests and other ecosystems through the creation and wide adoption of a broad range of environmental finance, markets and other incentive mechanisms. Forest Trends’ staff have operated in Myanmar since 2011, working to improve transparency and accountability in the forestry sector, and specifically on forestry reform that contributes to forest tenure rights and peace-building in ethnic armed conflict areas where forest-based resources are located.
