Use of social media by children and adolescents in East Asia - opportunities, risks, and harms

This report examines how children in Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand use social media, with a particular focus on online safety and the risks of online sexual abuse and exploitation. Based on focus group discussions and surveys involving 301 children including street-connected children, refugees, children with disabilities, and those from marginalized communities. The study explores children's online behaviors, perceptions of risk, and protective practices. The findings provide evidence to support policies and interventions that strengthen child online safety across East Asia.
